Maybe “Trump is using his entire presidential campaign to evade legal accountability” is indeed one too many turns in a media narrative that seems to get no specific traction in part because it never lifts off in time to soar. But “Trump Justices doing what MAGA paid for” may not be, since the public already knows it. That isn’t a tricky story to tell. It’s the American dream, turned on its head: Two systems of justice, one for the haves and the other for the have-nots, and two types of justices, Trump’s for the taking.
I generally dig Lithwick's stuff, but I'm not entirely convinced here.
One problem with Trump's myriad trials breaking through to our usually-disengaged electorate is not that there are so many, or they're hard to understand, but everything in the spotlight thus far is like Spring Training. Pre-trial stuff like discovery, motions in limine, interlocutory appeals, etc, seem to keep pushing his accountability further into the future.
And that's how this shit works. But now, he's got a solid trial date for one of his indictments, and even while we wait for his finally maybe obtaining a bond for appeal in the NY fraud case, the large judgement is pretty eye opening for some folks I'd wager. The hits will keep coming.
Plus the campaign has just begun in earnest. Trump's off the trail while Dark Brandon is starting to ramp up. Polls are turning around as reality sinks in.
Sure, talk about SCOTUS. The other stuff is important, too, and not a difficult narrative to report from where I sit.
